st_respect Ship Wars, Prompt 2, but never submitted.
Nyota Uhura fell in love for the first time when she was 16. The object of her desire was in a full-screen picture in her Advanced Linguistics text, right at the beginning of the section on the development of the universal translator. Uhura immediately felt a surge of attraction towards Amanda Grayson, one even greater than her feelings for Mr. McNamara, the AP Vulcan teacher.
Uhura wasn't the type of girl who fell in love at the tip of a hat, but her feelings about Amanda Grayson were too strong to be denied. After gazing at the picture for the entirety of her study hall, Uhura skipped out of fourth period (something she had never done before in her entire life) in order to look Amanda Grayson up on the library intranet console.
She found an endless source of information on Amanda Grayson; the woman was both a genius and the mother of the first ever Vulcan-Human hybrid. Uhura devoured every single article, vid clip, and historical file she could find on the older woman. Her search for information continued when she returned home that day, and the next, and the next.
The first night after encountering her new love, Uhura lay in her bed, thinking of Amanda Grayson's face, her hair, the artistic line of her fingers, and her most recent thesis on the development of the post-reformation Vulcan treatment of conflict. Heat rose in Uhura's face as she thought about how the two of them would meet, at a class in the academy, or maybe on Uhura's first trip to Vulcan on assignment. Uhura knew that Amanda would immediately know that they shared a love for language that was equaled by no other woman in the federation.
Before she knew what she was doing Uhura was already halfway to orgasm, the fingers of her left hand penetrating herself as she pushed at her clit with the right. He mind overwhelmed by the thoughts of her new love and her body overwhelmed by something else entirely, Uhura brought herself to a shattering climax.
Panting in the aftermath of her orgasm, Uhura resolved to meet, and seduce, Amanda Grayson by any means necessary.
By the time she graduated high school, Uhura had collected an impressive file on all information pertaining to her love-interest. It was the first thing she packs before leaving to begin her education at Starfleet academy, and the first thing she unpacked, placing it on top of her desk with reverence.
Her life at the academy was more challenging, and Uhura often found herself too busy to indulge in learning or fantasizing about Amanda, but her fierce love for the older woman never diminished. She felt the lack of Amanda's presence as a physical pain, even though she had never met the woman in person. She often found herself imagining Amanda as part of her everyday life, creating entire conversations in her head, and she was often disappointed when she turned to speak to her lover and, once again, found that there was no one there.
At times there is a feeling as though her life was being conducted under a heavy gray cloud, muffled in surrealism and depression, somewhere in her mind she feels that the moment she met Amanda in reality that cloud will clear and the sun would shine on her for the first time.
In her first year, Uhura began composing letters to Amanda, she never sent them but instead kept them on a password-locked PADD in her desk.
In her third year at the academy Uhura finished at the top of her class and began dating Spock. Uhura is the first to admit that starting a relationship with the son of the love of her life is probably the most unhealthy thing she could do. Nevertheless, she found herself attracted to Spock for his own qualities, and not just because he would theoretically have to take her home to meet his mother at some point. With Spock she could forget the pressing desire and loneliness which had pressed on her since she first saw Amanda's picture in that text.
She loved Spock in a way she has loved only one other person, but alone in her quarters after having not had sex with her Vulcan boyfriend she would bring herself to orgasm with another person's name on her lips.
The Narada incident began in a whirlwind of activity and fear, and before Uhura knew it, Vulcan had been reduced to one more deep space singularity. It isn't until she was comforting Spock in the turbolift that Uhura realized what the death of Vulcan meant to her.
She returned to her quarters at the end of shift, shaking and crying. They might have been in the middle of a devastating diplomatic incident, their planet may be the next to be destroyed, but all Uhura could think about was the death of her love. She ended up vomiting in the bathroom for an hour before she could bring herself to the bed.
Instead of resting, Uhura found herself going through her files, and the letters she wrote to Amanda Grayson in the hopes that she would one day meet her. She read each one, quietly weeping, before deleting it from the file. Hours later (and still with no sleep) Uhura tosed the empty PADD into the recycler.
Once the Enterprise had begun it's peaceful trek home, Uhura threw away all the files she has collected on Amanda Grayson. The gray-cloud-weight on her chest did not lift, nor did she expect it to, knowing there is was chance of finding that glimpse of light once it has passed on.
